Imperial Engineering were engaged by TMT to deliver the complete electrical installation package for the transformation of the former retail spaces and upper floors of two vacant units within Merseyway Shopping Centre into a modern innovation hub – the Merseyway Innovation Centre.
Funded by Stockport Council via the European Regional Development Fund and other sources, the centre offers approximately 15,000 sq ft of flexible coworking, private offices, meeting rooms, business lounge and breakout areas.
Our scope encompassed LV distribution, lighting and emergency lighting, small power, external lighting, fire & security systems, and ensuring the space was fully serviced, future-ready and aligned with the innovative character of the build-out.
Coordinating a full-package electrical installation within an existing retail centre being repurposed for flexible workspace presented several challenges.
Working within a live shopping centre environment required careful phasing and coordination with TMT and other trades to maintain access, minimise disruption and adhere to stringent health & safety protocols.
The design had to deliver future-proof connectivity and intelligent lighting schemes while integrating seamlessly into the architectural fit-out.
Achieving efficient LV distribution, containment and life-safety systems (fire detection, access control, CCTV) within a former retail shell required innovative routing and flexible installation solutions.
